Bachelor Beach Sunset

Who doesn't like a pretty sunset. Bachelor Beach. Wed Feb 4, 2009.

DoggieLogue 2/4/09--Max and the Tiptons

Watching sunset is something we try not to miss. It's a short drive to Bachelor Beach, the nearest beach entry to the water. There you have an unobstructed view of the horizon. Rob, Naomi, Max, and Carolyn and I witnessed another spectacular sunset.

We also ran into a couple from Vermont--John and Mindy--who were doing the same. John was quite the character and after Max introduced himself John performed a slight-of-hand trick with string and puzzled us with a riddle.

Max loves meeting new people....Dan

DoggieLogue 2/5/09---Max is "Overserved"

After meeting the young med students at the Karaoke bar on Wed night, Max decided he needed a night out on his own to make even more friends. He dressed up with his new "Flavor Flav"-style leash and hitched a ride downtown.

Apparently he had a very good time and was, as our dive friend Jim Vandiver says, "overserved" a bit and ended up doing a little pole dancing to amuse his new friends.

Max spent all of Friday "resting"....Dan

Seahorse at Corporal Meiss Divesite

One of the most elusive and sought-after finds underwater. Naomi is awesome at finding underwater treasures. She located both seahorses we've seen so far. Many people come here on dive trips year after year and haven't yet seen a seahorse.

Rob shot the video and Naomi edited it......enjoy.....Dan

DoggieLogue 2/4/09---Max does Karaoke

You knew it had to happen sooner or later. Every vacation seems to involve karaoke at some point. Karel's beach bar sits right on the water in downtown Kralendijk. Every Wednesday it's karaoke night. Their song selection was mostly geared toward Dutch tourists, but Max found a few songs that Naomi and Carolyn could belt out.

Carolyn also made friends with two med students attending St. James Medical School here. (The same one Max visited in an earlier post). I'm sure we'll be back to make more friends.

Iguanas like lettuce---who knew?

There are a couple "house iguanas" at Buddy Dive resort. After eating breakfast there one morning we notices the iguanas hanging out near the outdoor kitchen. I wanted to get a photo of Max with them and wasn't having much luck lining it up when the morning chef hands Carolyn a piece of romaine lettuce to feed one. Max wasn't that interested in them, and the iguanas weren't all that interested in him either. Everyone got fed that morning though...Dan

Rob & Naomi--the diving duo

Rob and Naomi Tipton arrived Saturday the 31st of Jan. and settled in to the one-bedroom apartment next door to ours. We're looking forward to more diving and fun on the island. Most of the hotels and resorts have one or two evenings a week that they put out a buffet style dinner. Every Tuesday night at the Plaza Resort it is BBQ night, complete with a local steel band performing during dinner. Good food and good music. All enjoyed it. We'll probably go back so Max can play the steel drums again. My camera batteries died just after the shot of Rob and Naomi at our table....bummer...Dan
